      Aldeburgh Golf Club welcomes visitors to both the Championship and the River Course on weekdays and weekends throughout the year. Beginners and novices welcome. No handicap certificate required. Clubhouse and terrace opened in 1911 and includes a bar but a dress code is enforced (see website). Old Smoke room offers views of course. Food includes daily specials and sandwiches.

      A fine Victorian hotel over-looking the sea towards the southern end of town. Seafood and grill restaurant on the waterfront terrace and separate cocktail bar. Formerly the seaside residence of Lord Cardigan, whose family name was Brudenell.

      This 15th Century pub is set back from sea front and is one of the oldest buildings in the town. Steps down from road lead into a small seating area which leads to the main bar and a variety of other seating areas. Seafood is a speciality. The pub has close ties with nearby lifeboat. Please note that this pub only accepts payment by card - cash is not accepted. The pub includes three boutique guest bedrooms for bed and breakfast stays.

      A restaurant and café during the daytime and a bar in the evening. There's a pop-up Thai restaurant in the courtyard. The bar caters mainly for locals and even has a dartboard. There are regular late night music sessions from local musicians and occasional open mic sessions. No Real Ale since March 2020.

      A multi-roomed pub situated across the road from the 17th century Moot hall and seafront gardens, and close to the iconic fishermen's huts on the shingle beach. It's popular with locals and also tourists (including bikers, ramblers & bird spotters). Children aged 10 or over also welcome. Handy for refreshments after a stroll along the beach.

      The food offer specialises in locally caught fish and other local produce. Traditionally the landlord is a member of the lifeboat crew.

      The pub was originally built in the 16th century but substantially reconstructed in the mid 19th. The pub underwent a major internal refurbishment in early 2012. The bar counter was relocated to the back of the building (where an old dining area used to be) and a new restaurant with sea views was fitted out in the former front bar area. Other new drinking areas have also been created.

      A friendly locals' bar set away from the popular seafront area. Pub offers various food and drink promotions and occasional karaoke and quiz nights. The last train departed in 1966 and the station which gave the pub its name has long since been demolished.

      Plenty of nautical memorabilia adorn this single wood panelled bar which used to be the public reading room. Next door to the town's renowned fish and chip shop and only a few yards from the beach, it is popular with both tourists and many locals. Occasional music and basic food options, such as sandwiches. Filled rolls are available behind the bar and in the summer there is a pizzeria in the garden 12:00 to 21:00.

      A timber framed pub with quarry-tiled floors throughout. There's a small "L" shaped public bar and a separate restaurant. The bar features a wood-burner and a real fire. There are regular themed food nights andegular music nights including Jazz on the first Sunday of every month and unplugged acoustic sessions every third Tuesday of the month. Quiz nights are held on the second Tuesday of the month. There's a beer festival in August. There are plans plans to add a shop and other facilities. The pub is at the far-western edge of the village, almost in Little Finborough. It was historically listed as being in Upper town, i.e. Combs. and is technically in that parish, as the boundary between Combs & Battisford runs through the car park in front of the pub. IT IS ADVISABLE TO BOOK FOR FOOD IN ADVANCE. The pub is run by a community-interest company on behalf of the village.

      A local community owned and run pub. The single bar serves two drinking areas. There is also plenty of seating in the pretty beer garden. Various music evenings and occasional themed food nights but no TV. Traditional pub games are available including darts, cards and dominoes. Quiz every month (last Saturday). Local artists' work is on display. There's a wood-burning stove in the restaurant area. Some of the produce used in the kitchen is now being grown by the local community in their own garden. Nearby (on some of the pub land) a new build local community shop is being run as a separate entity to provide basic groceries for the village. The pub holds the Cask Marque Award for serving great quality real ale and has a toilet accessible to disabled customers.       A popular 15th century pub with a long established reputation for food. The historic part of the building has wooden floors, an exposed timber frame and leaded windows. The garden incorporates a children's play area. Much of the pub is now used for dining during busy sessions. Themed food nights include popular steak nights. Quiz nights are held every second Tuesday of the month. There are a number of rumours about the history of the pub. It's said that some of its beams are timbers from ships that were part of the Spanish Armada. It's also rumoured that there was a smugglers' tunnel from the cellar to the foreshore. Cycle racks have been installed to make the pub extra suitable for cyclists exploring the area. Dog-friendly, with doggie treats always available. The owners are supporters of the local Riding for Disabled Centre at Hollesley.

      A cosy two bar pub which is located near to a large industrial area. Pool, darts, and cards (inclding regular poker nights). There are three beer festivals each year, including Easter, summer and winter events. The pub has good views across the nearby river Stour, looking across the estuary towards Essex. The access road & nearby ancient bridge was once part of the main road but has been by-passed for many years. When the Xylonite factory was active, the Crown had a special license that allowed it to stay open ten minutes longer than normal so workers there could get a drink after leaving work.

      To make a Bacon Froize Take eight Eggs well beaten, & a little Cream, & a little Flour, & beat them well together to be like other Batter, then fry very thin slices of Bacon, & pour some of this over, then fry it, & turn the other side, & pour more upon that, so fry it & serve it to the Table.

      A large, open plan, single bar pub serving consistently good beer. It's situated just over half a mile from the centre of nearby Stowmarket. For fine weather drinking, the beer garden is located beside a small stream (the River Rat). It is a sister pub to the Dove Street Inn in Ipswich and loyalty card holders from the Dove Street Inn may use them here. As well as a range of up to 14 Real Ales plus a range craft ales, there are four or five ciders and a wide range of lagers, imported foreign beers and whiskies. Real Ales are served either through hand-pumps and on gravity Sky Sport and BT Sport are shown. There's a toilet accessible to disabled customers.

It offers a variety of drinking areas including two main bars and a garden, and has an interesting range of food in the restaurant. There's a full traditional Carvery every Sunday (with 3 meats carved for you and you can help yourself to fresh vegetables). Booking is always advisable to secure a table. There's live entertainment most Fridays, from bands to karaoke, all semi professionals, including Jazz, Soul, Motown, Reggae, rock, etc with the occasional Sunday afternoon Jazz, and Friday/Saturday music. The building dates from the early 17th century, with late 20th century alterations. There's an annual gin festival, with over 240 different types available.       This is a bar & restaurant in the Cliff House Holiday Park, open to the public. It replaces the cliff House inn. The new bar has a number of eco-friendly features, for example it's heated by a ground heat source pump and the lighting system is almost all LED, drawing around 12 amps to cover the 8000 sq ft area.

      Once a haunt of smugglers, the Ship at Dunwich isn't just a great place to eat, drink, relax & get away from it all; it's also part of a great local story. There are comfortable, traditionally furnished rooms, some with great views across the sea marshes. 16 letting rooms and a tiled bar with simple wooden furniture and wood-burner. The menu is extensive. The pub has an enormous garden, dotted with fruit trees (including a 300 year old fig tree) and the beach really is just a couple of minutes walk away. There's music each month (on last Thursday). Beers are from local brewers. Beer Festivals are held in March & September.

      A splendid traditional pub, set back from road behind a small green, which although recently refurbished retains much character. Simple wood furnishings, candles on scrubbed tables, bare floorboards and a large fireplace (recently fitted with a wood-burner) provide an effective back-drop to the excellent beer that was once brewed behind the pub, but which is now brewed in Debenham (a couple of miles away). Home made, good value meals are available from a very varied menu at both lunchtimes & evenings (see chalkboards). The pub can get busy, especially at weekends, but is definitely worth a visit. There's occasional live music. Poker dice is played.

There's also a large car park and a large, fully fenced garden.

Local sketches are framed and displayed on the walls. An unspoilt snug bar was closed for many years. The pub is located away from main village settlement in a small hamlet close to a popular caravan & camping site. The nickname, "Dickie" is a Suffolk dialect word for a Donkey.

Accommodation is available (with en-suite facilities) to the rear of the building. Local musicians play on Thursday evenings and a traditional folk night is hosted on the last Sunday of the month. There's a petanque festival each year and an early August garden festival. Everything a country pub should be!

Intriguingly, a recent (2016) landlord grew up next door to the Golden Hind in Cambridge - the only Tolly Folly outside Suffolk.

The pub was greatly extended in early 2009. The company also owns Briarbank Brewery in the old bank building on Fore Street. Card only payments I.e. no cash is taken at the bar.

      Set in a small part of the historic port area still remaining. It retains a half timbered front with dormer windows. An unusual gravity dispense system is used which incorporates a row of old wooden casks to good effect and guarantees a temperature controlled real ale. Since mid-2017 the pub has been under the same management as the well-regarded Manningtree Red Lion. Ales are currently mainly from Adnams, though the plan is to source more from local micros. Families are welcome to mix with an interesting and diverse clientèle which includes international travellers attracted from the rejuvenated wet dock and students from the new university campus. Booking maybe required for Sunday roasts and a curry night every Wednesday. The building dates from the 17th century, though the brick frontage was added in the 20th to aid cleaning up after the many floods that affected the area. Originally called Noah's Ark, the name changed in about 1800 when Admiral Nelson was appointed High Steward of Ipswich.

Craft beers on draught plus over 25 bottled beers and 40 quality wines are stocked (half sold by the glass). Games are available including darts. Home supporters only on football match days. It's aimed at being the kind of pub where people can meet and enjoy conversation over a few drinks. Although sport tends to often be shown on large screens, the volume is down, so as not to disturb drinkers. The pub was renamed the Thomas Wolsey in September 2011.

The lion's head figure on the outside wall is said to be the figurehead taken from a Dutch ship captured at the Battle of Sole Bay in 1672, though it has also been suggested it came from a vessel wrecked off Benacre in about 1740. Parts of the building date from the late 16th century, with an early 19th century wing to the right. Note that cash is not accepted here.

It was first recorded as public house in 1553, though it may be older. (The Listed Buildings Register says the building's 17th century so presumably there was an earlier building?) The pub has featured in films and once in TV's Lovejoy (as 'The Three Ducks'!)

Shottisham villagers raised funds to buy the pub by selling shares in the pub in 2011 & 2012. Traditional food, mostly home made including vegetarian options is available. But behave yourself, otherwise you may find yourself in the pillory that's situated in the garden. They now hold music nights on the second Monday of the month with a guest folk performer or group, and occasionally on the fourth Monday with an act from another genre, such as jazz, blues, etc.

The building is part of a historic former coaching inn dating from about 1520. The original medieval structure was at least 3 times larger than what now remains and included a second wing located on the far side of the car-park, which was eventually destroyed by fire. The inn also once had stabling to the rear of the premises, for about 200 horses. George II once stayed overnight here on route to London. On the other side of the road is a Victorian pumping station close to the remains of a lock on the River Stour, which is the county boundary and was once navigable from Manningtree (in Essex) to Sudbury.

      A hop garden has been planted at the pub and a (very) small on-site brewery started production in September 2016. The pub has been owned since late 2012 by Sophie and Mark Dorber. The Dorbers also own and run the Walberswick Anchor. No food at the moment, this is expected to be available in the near future.

Social events & weddings also catered for. Themed food evenings and regular Sunday roasts. Games include local cribbage league matches and bar billiards. Petanque played in garden (March to August). Terrestrial sport on TV on request. Also currently stock about 90 gins. The owners are CAMRA members and the two beers they have on rotate, generally avoiding Adnams. Food times MAY be extended if the demand is there. Beers are usually from local brewers. In late-2020/early-2021 new signage was erected describing the pub as the "Wheatsheaf Beer House". The pub occasionally shuts for a couple of days if there is a big beer festival on near by, landlady often is a volunteer for Norwich in October for example, so do check our Facebook page if you have any doubts.

      This distinctive two bar pub is located close to the reservoir on a former main road which is now just a cul-de-sac and is a popular start/ending point for local walks. Both bars have exposed timber frame throughout. The refurbished public bar also has a large open fire, whilst the restaurant bar is larger and incorporates a wood burner. Various meal deals are offered during the week. Terrestrial sport is shown on TV. All toilets are still located outside in a separate building. Acoustic music sessions (folk or buskers) on the 1st & 3rd Sunday of every month. The statue of a white horse (Grade II Listed, as is the pub) located just outside this pub once stood outside the Great White Horse Hotel in Ipswich. It was badly damaged in the gales of early 2008 & was restored in August.

For each ale or lager sampled, the club will compile their thoughts on 'see', 'smell' and 'taste' as well as assessing the mix of bitterness and sweetness.       The building dates from the late 18th century. The pub was originally a wooden hut on another site (possibly Gaymer's Lane). The name was changed from the New Inn to remember Thomas Cavendish, who was born in Trimley St Martin and in May 1588 was the first man to command a ship that deliberately circumnavigated the world (previous circumnavigators had done so accidentally). It was apparently renamed to celebrate his return to Trimley from his circumnavigation. It was renamed from the Three Mariners to the Mariners Free House in September 2015, when it passed into new ownership.

A micrcobrewery (Uffa Brewery) was installed in 2011, with production starting late May of that year.

      This distinctive red brick building dates from 1898 (though a pub has existed on this site since the 17th century) and provides a cosy community local, located close to the village duck pond and the large green. The management were presented with an Adnams' cellar award in November 2014.

      The small pub area is these days dwarfed by the steak-grill and motel. This helped to transform the business and today the remaining bar area is more popular with diners. In 2017 all "Oyster Reach" signage was removed and the whole operation apparently re-branded "Beefeater" (though according to its website, it's still the Oyster Reach), though it still retains the bar with two hand-pumps. For a long while this was a popular, small, late drinking venue just outside Ipswich town borough (when Ipswich pubs still closed at 10.30pm). The Oyster Reach name only dates from 1995, as a reference to the historic oyster beds on that part of the Orwell.

      This prominent, historical multi-roomed pub dates from about 1540. Facilities include a bistro, the main bar, a narrow public bar and an enclosed conservatory. The patio garden is also very popular in good weather. The main bar includes a large fireplace and high beamed ceiling. Live rugby is televised in public bar on all home nation match days. The food is an eclectic mix of styles to suit most tastes. Outside is the listed "steelyard" - which is an impressive 15th century weighbridge that gives the pub its name. The only other pub with a steelyard like this is the Fountain at Soham in Cambridgeshire. The steelyard was nearly destroyed in the early hours of March 10th 2018 when it was hit by an HGV, which failed to stop. Police say they have located and spoken to the driver who will be "interviewed for traffic related offences in due course". It has since been repaired.
